About the Island:

Bois Blanc Island is about fourteen miles long by seven miles wide island. It is located in Straits of Mackinac between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. Much of the island is owned by the State of Michigan. Its forest contains white pine, Norway pine, cedar and birch. The wildlife is diverse in population. There are approximately 54 year round residents.

The purpose of the Bois Blanc Island Community Foundation is to support and promote charitable, scientific, literary, educational and cultural programs and projects which protect, preserve and cultivate the rich heritage of the island. Our foundation is affiliated to the Community Foundation
of Northeast Michigan which allows us to take advantage
of their administrative expertise.

BBI Volunteer Fire Department Update

Bois Blanc Island is made up mainly of birch, pine and cedar which are highly flammable. Before you build an open fire, you are required to get permission. Please call 231-634-7085 (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.) for a BURN PERMIT.
