Why?

Purpose and Goals of the Bois Blanc Island Community Foundation

Our reasons for living on beautiful Bois Blanc Island vary from person to person, yet we all share a common connection to it – a love of our community. Our island’s many attractions come with a number of challenges and, though our remoteness is a tremendous asset, it creates many obstacles. Bois Blanc Island residents are concerned about many issues ranging from safety, roads and the environment to education, communication and recreation. The Bois Blanc Island community Foundation (BBICF) was found in 1999 as a result of the late Fred Currier’s vision to create an organization that benefits the long term well being of our community

BBICF is part of the Community Foundation of Northeast Michigan (CFNEM). This partnership allows BBICF to take advantage of the administration and expertise that is offered by the CFNEM. This allows the BBICF board of directors to concentrate on helping our residents improve the quality of life in our community, now and for years to come. Like other community foundations, donations to the Bois Blanc Island Community Foundation are used to establish endowed funds. The principle from these funds is carefully invested, with the resulting earnings being used to make grants to qualified, tax-exempt organizations for projects of benefit to our community. The principle is never spent. Therefore these funds continue to grow, enabling us to support our community forever!
